Two British lawmakers from the governing center-left Labor Party, Abtisam Mohamed and Yuan Yang, faced criticism from Israel after their attempt to visit the country was halted. The Israeli embassy in the UK accused them of planning to provoke anti-Israel activities. Upon returning to London, Mohamed and Yang expressed their astonishment at being barred from visiting the occupied West Bank, emphasizing the importance of parliamentarians being able to witness the situation in the region firsthand. The embassy accused them of promoting sanctions and supporting campaigns against Israel, while the lawmakers emphasized following international law. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy criticized the Israeli authorities’ handling of the situation. Previously, other notable individuals, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, have also been barred from entering Israel due to their criticism. Additionally, at least 44 people were killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, with Hamas launching rockets towards Israel, causing injuries in the city of Ashkelon.
