On Tuesday, the White House launched its official TikTok account, despite the app facing a potential ban in the US due to national security concerns. The account’s first post featured a 27-second clip showing Donald Trump declaring, “I am your voice.” Although the White House account had less than 19,000 followers a few hours after the first video was posted, Trump’s own TikTok account has 110.1 million followers. Despite Trump’s initial efforts to ban the social media network, the platform has helped him gain support among younger voters. The Trump administration is still working on a deal for US investors to buy the app from TikTok’s Chinese parent, ByteDance, as concerns remain about user data potentially falling into the hands of the Chinese government.
