Tottenham Hotspur’s Long-Serving Captain Son Announces Departure After a Decade – DW – 08/02/2025

The 33-year-old captain of Tottenham Hotspur, Son Heung-min, has announced he will be leaving the Premier League team this summer after a decade-long tenure. Although he did not reveal his next destination, British media speculate that he may be moving to Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer. During his time with Tottenham, Son won his first trophy in May of this year, taking the lead in the Europa League final against Manchester United, despite suffering from several leg injuries throughout the season.

Son Heung-min declared during a press conference, before Tottenham’s friendly match against Newcastle United in Seoul, that he feels the need for a new environment to push himself after a long career in north London. He joined the club at the young age of 23 and has since played over 450 games and scored 173 goals for Tottenham.

The announcement is an indication that the winger has accomplished everything he set out to do while being a vital part of Tottenham’s growth over the last decade.
