US President Donald Trump has fired several US national security officials, as reported by broadcaster CNN and other news outlets on Thursday.

The New York Times reported that six staff members of the National Security Council (NSC) were dismissed, while others were reassigned, following a meeting between Trump and far-right activist Laura Loomer. Among those fired were David Feith, senior director overseeing technology and national security, and Brian Walsh, senior director overseeing intelligence matters, according to Reuters. The reasons for the firings were unclear, with unnamed sources telling Reuters that there were issues with their vetting and background checks.

This comes in the wake of a scandal involving Trump’s National Security Council (NSC) last week, when a journalist from US magazine The Atlantic was accidentally added to a chat on the Signal app where officials discussed air strikes against the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
