Prime Ministers of Greece, Spain, and the United Kingdom voiced support for Ukraine’s government on Saturday amid concerns that Kyiv is excluded from peace negotiations between the Kremlin and US President Donald Trump. Despite Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Trump recently blamed Ukraine for initiating the conflict and labeled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “dictator,” suggesting he doesn’t need to be present in peace talks. European leaders like Greece’s Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Spain’s Pedro Sanchez emphasized the necessity of Ukraine’s involvement in framing peace and opposed any imposed peace. UK’s Kier Starmer affirmed that Ukraine must be central to any negotiations and stressed the importance of safeguarding Ukraine’s sovereignty to deter Russian aggression. Meanwhile, the United States is seeking a Security Council vote on a draft resolution regarding the Ukraine war, proposing a text that calls for the resolution of the conflict and lasting peace. However, Ukraine is reluctant to sign a minerals deal with the US without security guarantees. Protests in London denounced any betrayal of Ukraine, and Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that his country will decide on Ukraine’s EU membership, arguing that accession could harm Hungary’s national economy.
