US and Ukraine Ink Accord on Natural Resource Investments – DW – January 5, 2025

The United States and Ukraine have agreed to establish a joint “reconstruction investment” fund, as confirmed by both governments on Wednesday in Washington, though the full details of the accord have yet to be disclosed by the US government. It is understood that the pact may grant the US exclusive access to Ukraine’s vital resources for high-tech industries, despite Ukraine’s assertion of full ownership over their mineral resources under the agreement. Additionally, US President Trump commented on the deal, suggesting that the US should receive more from Ukraine than it has provided in aids. The agreement, which requires ratification by the Ukrainian parliament, was nearly derailed following a dispute between the presidents of Ukraine and the US in February.
