Kremlin waiting to be informed about US ceasefire proposal

Russia said that it was waiting for information about a proposed ceasefire in Ukraine, which Kyiv has indicated it would back.

“We assume that Secretary of State [Marco]  Rubio and Advisor [Michael] Walz through various channels in the coming days will inform us on the negotiations that took place and the understandings reached,” AFP quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.

Peskov also said he wasn’t ruling out a possible phone call between presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, which he said could be arranged quickly if needed.

Ukraine said it was ready to support the US proposal after talks in Saudi Arabia, a move welcomed by European allies.

Kremlin says Russian forces ‘advancing’ in Kursk

Russia said it was making gains in the Kursk region and that its forces had recaptured five villages that had been seized by Ukraine.

“The information provided by our military shows that our troops are successfully advancing in the Kursk Region, liberating areas that were under the control of the militants. The dynamic is good,” Kremlin spokesman Dimitry Peskov told reporters.

In August, Ukraine launched a surprise offensive in the Kursk region but has gradually been losing captured areas as Moscow has sent thousands of reinforcements to the area, including North Korean soldiers.

Russia says its forces are in the regional hub of Sudzha, the largest town to have been captured by Kyiv in the region. Local media shared footage purportedly showing Russian soldiers in the center of the town.

US military aid to Ukraine resumes through Poland

Poland‘s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski confirmed that US weapons supplies to Ukraine had resumed to previous levels following talks between officials from Washington and Kyiv in Saudi Arabia.

“I confirm that arms deliveries via Jasionka [logistics hub]  have returned to previous levels,” Sikorski told reporters on Wednesday.

Warsaw says that the vast majority of military aid to Ukraine passes through Poland, particularly through the Jasionka hub in the east.

Washington had halted military aid last week following a public spat at the White House between US President Donald Trump and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Sikorski was speaking alongside Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who had been part of talks in Jeddah.

During those talks, Ukraine backed a US proposal for a  30-day ceasefire with Russia.

Although Europe has not been part of the talks in Saudi Arabia, leaders have welcomed the news that Ukraine has agreed to the ceasefire proposal.

Welcome to our coverage

US weapons deliveries to Ukraine have resumed through Poland after Ukraine said it was willing to accept an interim 30-day ceasefire in the war with Russia.

The US also said it would resume intelligence sharing while Kyiv and Washington also agreed to sign a deal for developing Ukraine’s mineral resources soon.

The developments come after a very public spat involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump, and Vice President JD Vance, after which Washington announced the suspension of military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

European states were not part of the talks between the US and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia. Defense chiefs and representatives from France, Germany, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom will be meeting in Paris today to discuss Ukraine.
