US Hits Yemen’s Fuel Port Amid Hamas’ Rejection of ‘Partial’ Ceasefire – DW – 04/18/2025

Several dozen people were killed after US forces targeted a significant fuel port in Yemen on Thursday night.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the strikes on Ras Isa port aimed to weaken the economic power base of the Iran-backed Houthi militants.

CENTCOM claimed on social media that the US forces took action to eliminate this source of fuel for the Iran-backed Houthi terrorists.

The strike was not intended to harm the people of Yemen, who desire to free themselves from Houthi subjugation and live peacefully, CENTCOM added.

At least 38 people, including five paramedics, were killed in the airstrikes, according to Houthi-affiliated media. The Houthi-run Health Ministry reported that there were also around 50 wounded workers and employees at the Ras Isa oil port following the American aggression.

The deaths from the strike on the port in western Yemen marked one of the highest tolls since the US began its air campaign against the militant group last month.

The US stated that the campaign would continue until the Houthis stopped attacking cargo ships near the Red Sea in retaliation for Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian militant group Hamas rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal for a new truce.

Khalil Al-Hayya, Hamas’ Gaza chief and head of the negotiating team, stated that the group would not agree to a “partial” ceasefire.

Hayya accused Netanyahu and his government of using partial agreements as a cover for their political agenda, which aims to continue the war of extermination and starvation even at the cost of sacrificing all prisoners.

Hayya said Hamas was ready to immediately engage in comprehensive package negotiations to release all remaining hostages in its custody in exchange for an end to the Gaza war, the release of Palestinians jailed by Israel, and the reconstruction of Gaza.
