Celebrated throughout Italy, Venice stands out as the epicenter of this annual tradition. This year, the Venetian Carnival is dedicated to the era of Giacomo Casanova, commemorating the 300th anniversary of his birth.
The festival's ceremonies have ancient origins traceable back to 1094. After a two-century absence, the Carnival was revived in 1979 and has since become integral to Venetian heritage, attracting thousands of visitors annually.
On the opening night, a crowd of 20,000 people filled Venice's historic Piazza San Marco.
