Thomas Müller, who has spent 25 years with Bayern Munich, will be leaving the club this summer when his contract expires. Despite this, he expressed that he wasn’t ready to leave.

The 35-year-old midfielder made this announcement on Saturday alongside Bayern.

Through an Instagram post, Müller stated that he respected Bayern’s decision not to offer him a new contract for the upcoming season, even though it didn’t align with his personal wishes.

Müller has played a key role in Bayern’s victories, including a record 12 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League titles, adding up to a total of 33 trophies. However, his playing time has been limited lately.

“It’s clear that today is not like any other day for me,” Müller said. “My 25 years as an FC Bayern Munich player will come to an end in the summer. It’s been an incredible journey, shaped by unique experiences, great encounters, and unforgettable triumphs.”

FC Bayern’s website also paid tribute to the record-breaking Müller. Club president Herbert Hainer stated, “Thomas Müller is the definition of a Bavarian fairytale career; he grew up in Bavaria and with Bayern. Nobody has won more Bundesliga titles, and 33 trophies in total speak volumes. He ranks among the most outstanding personalities in FC Bayern history.”

The website posted, “The unique career of the attacking player in the jersey of the German record champions to a close together in the summer after 25 years and a total of 33 titles to date.”

Müller had previously retired from international football after the European Championship. He joined FC Bayern’s youth academy at the age of ten in 2000 and went on to become the club’s record player with 743 competitive matches.

“What I want for my farewell should be clear: titles that we can celebrate together and moments that we will all remember positively for a long time to come,” said Müller. “Over the next few weeks, we’ll do everything we can to bring the championship back to Munich and reach our long-awaited final Dahoam. Let’s tackle it together!” the player added.

His last game with Bayern will be the FIFA Club World Cup in the US in June and July.
