At least nine people have been killed and four injured in Ukraine’s northeastern region of Sumy after a Russian drone strike hit a passenger bus. Local officials described it as another war crime by Russia, targeting civilian transport that posed no threat.
The strike occurred following unsuccessful direct peace talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials in Turkey. The talks, the first in years, failed to bring about a ceasefire.
Ukraine’s national police shared photos showing the aftermath of the strike in Bilopillia city, approximately 10 kilometers from the front line and the Russian border.
Bilopillia has declared a period of mourning until Monday, with local community chief Yurii Zarko calling the day of the attack “Black Saturday”.
