The National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto is hosting an exhibition titled ‘Young Poland: Polish Art 1890-1918’, showcasing works by Polish artists from the 19th and 20th centuries for the first time in Japan. This exhibition includes over 150 artworks, including paintings, drawings, and prints, showcasing the key examples of Polish Modernism. The exhibition aims to highlight the significant cultural exchange between Poland and Japan and the influence of Japanese art on Polish artists. The showcased artworks cover various themes, including nature, Japanese influences, and the national style of Poland. Some notable artists featuring in the exhibition include Olga Boznańska, Jacek Malczewski, Józef Mehoffer, Władysław Podkowiński, Józef Pankiewicz, and Stanisław Wyspiański. Additionally, two previously unseen works by Boznanska, ‘Tulips’ and ‘Portrait of Mrs L’, are on display, which have been loaned from the Ohara Museum of Art in Japan. The exhibition runs until June 29, 2023.
