A love that’s no longer so frozen.
Euronews Culture recently covered the internet buzz over a possible Fleetwood Mac reunion, sparked by mysterious social media posts by former members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.
Disbelieving the hype and to avoid possible disappointment, we concluded it was likely just bandmates enjoying a laugh and mending relationships. How wrong we were.
Nicks and Buckingham have now announced the reissue of ‘Buckingham Nicks,’ more than 50 years after its initial release as their solo album.
On September 19, a remastered version will be available for purchase both digitally and on CD, with a limited run of 5,000 physical copies. ‘Crying in the Night,’ the album’s first track, is already streaming.
‘Buckingham Nicks’ was first released in 1973 to little success, but caught the notice of Mick Fleetwood who invited Buckingham into Fleetwood Mac. Nicks was insistent she joins too.
As a couple, they became the faces, voices, and songwriters of the group for the following four decades, with their tumultuous relationship inspiring hits like the 1977 album ‘Rumours.’
‘Buckingham Nicks’ earned a cult classic status but became scarce in record shops. It hasn’t been released on vinyl since 1981 and has been absent from streaming.
The duo teased this with Instagram posts last week.
Fans speculated a Fleetwood Mac reunion, but this seemed unlikely without late singer Christine McVie.
McVie’s death on November 30, 2022, at age 79 made Nicks state there was no chance of rebuilding Fleetwood Mac, which could have come true.
Both wanted to re-release their debut album long ago.
In 2011, Buckingham told Uncut that they intended to reissue ‘Buckingham Nicks.’
The reissue keeps the original album’s cover, depicting the then-couple posing nude.
Being in their early to mid-20s during production, the music holds up well. Both agreed on the duo’s chemistry leading to natural collaboration.
