Russia conducted an overnight attack on Ukraine using 111 drones, as reported by local authorities.
According to Ukrainian officials, the Russian drone strikes overnight from Saturday to Sunday resulted in the deaths of two individuals and the injuries of 35 others in the eastern city of Kharkiv.
A total of 111 drones, including decoy drones, were launched by Russia towards Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force claimed to have shot down 65 of these drones, while 35 were lost due to electronic interference.
The victims in Kharkiv, which has experienced frequent attacks, include a 67-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman, as reported by Kharkiv’s regional governor, Oleh Syniehubov.
The attacks targeted a shopping centre, residential buildings, and a military hospital. Ukraine’s General Staff accused Russia of intentional and targeted shelling, which resulted in the injuries of soldiers among the casualties.
Zelenskyy’s overnight address
According to Ukrainian government and military experts, Russian forces are preparing for a new military operation in the upcoming weeks to intensify pressure on Ukraine and enhance their position in ceasefire negotiations.
During his overnight address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned that he had spoken with the Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi regarding the situation on the front lines, including areas where Ukrainian forces are operating on Russian territory. He emphasized that their operations are preventing the Russian occupiers from advancing in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
Russia claims additional settlement seizure
On Sunday, Russia reported that its air defense systems had intercepted six Ukrainian drones. Previously, Russia released a statement claiming the capture of settlements in the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia, as well as the small border village of Veselovka in the Sumy region.
The Russian Defense Ministry also stated that Ukrainian drones had targeted energy infrastructure in Russia’s Belgorod region, causing damage to transformers, disrupting high-voltage lines, and leaving over 9,000 households without electricity. Ukraine has yet to respond to this claim.
Ukraine denies the Russian Defense Ministry’s accusation of using drones and weapons to attack Russian energy facilities, dismissing their statement as fabricated.
