Early on Friday, Israel’s Security Cabinet gave the go-ahead to a proposal for occupying Gaza City, signaling an intensification in the ongoing conflict with Hamas.
This decision came after a lengthy night-time meeting of the security cabinet, following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s declaration that Israel intends to regain full control over the territory, with the eventual aim of handing it over to Palestine’s neighboring Arab nations that oppose Hamas.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been targeting Gaza City through continuous bombardments and military raids. As of now, it remains one of the few areas in Gaza that has not been transformed into an Israeli buffer zone or has evacuation orders in place.
