Adam Boehler, a White House envoy for hostage situations, met in person with Taliban officials at the Kabul International Airport. This marks the first time the White House has engaged with Afghanistan’s “interim government” since their takeover in 2021. The meeting was held to secure the release of American hostage, George Glezmann. Advisor and spokesman to Qatar’s prime minister, Dr. Majed Al-Ansari, confirmed that the meeting also discussed other “beneficial” issues for the Afghan people and U.S. citizens. Al-Ansari added that it was a good first step in facilitating dialogue on various issues, including hostages. The meeting is the second major release that Boehler secured this month.
