European officials challenge Trump and Israel’s stance on Egypt’s proposed Gaza strategy.

An ambitious $53 billion plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, backed by Arab nations, has received the endorsement of France, Germany, Italy, and the U.K., in spite of initial resistance from the U.S. and Israel. The foreign ministers of these European countries expressed their support for the plan, which they believe could provide immediate and sustainable improvements to the dire living conditions in Gaza. They also emphasized the need for a stable political and security framework post-conflict and highlighted their support for a significant role of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the reconstruction process. However, there are concerns regarding the proposal’s ability to address the current realities in Gaza and criticisms about the reliance on the PA and UNRWA, organizations accused of corruption and inefficiency. Meanwhile, President Trump’s plan for the U.S. to take control of Gaza faces significant criticism and skepticism over its feasibility and the potential for making Gaza a thriving region akin to the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
