Hungary announces its withdrawal from the ICC during Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s visit to the nation.

Hungary is set to exit the International Criminal Court (ICC) shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the country. Netanyahu, who faces ICC allegations of war crimes in Gaza, and his spouse were greeted by Hungarian officials upon his arrival. Despite being a founding member of the ICC, Hungary has expressed its commitment to not apprehend individuals sought by the court, with Prime Minister Viktor Orban condemning Netanyahu’s ICC warrant. Orban’s government has contemplating its involvement in the ICC since President Donald Trump’s sanctions against the court’s prosecutor. Hungary’s parliament, controlled by Orban’s Fidesz Party, is expected to approve the withdrawal legislation. Orban has consistently shown support for Netanyahu and has resisted EU criticism of Israel. The alleged war crimes involve accusations of murder, persecution, and the use of starvation as a war tactic in Gaza, with the Hamas-run Palestinian Ministry of Health reporting over 50,000 Palestinian deaths during the Israeli operation.
