Moscow anticipating information on specifics of US ceasefire proposal for Ukraine from Washington

Russia is awaiting details from Washington about the U.S.-Ukrainian ceasefire talks that took place in Saudi Arabia before providing any commentary on the proposal, according to the Kremlin. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow needs detailed information about the 30-day ceasefire plan that Ukraine has agreed to, indicating that Russia will only be able to comment on the acceptability of the proposed ceasefire once they have been briefed on the details. Russia has so far maintained opposition to any solution that is not a permanent end to the conflict and has not made any concessions.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who led the American delegation in the talks with Ukrainian officials, revealed that Ukraine is open to a 30-day ceasefire. He emphasized that the U.S. will share the proposal’s details with Russia. Rubio said, “We’re going to tell [the Russians] this is what’s on the table. Ukraine is ready to stop shooting and start talking. And now it’ll be up to them to say yes or no.”

Following the talks in Saudi Arabia, the Trump administration lifted its suspension of military aid for Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion. President Donald Trump expressed hope for an agreement in the coming days, mentioning that Russia has been easier to deal with than Ukraine. He also stated that a full ceasefire from Ukraine is a positive development.

Rubio expressed optimism about the talks, attributing the progress to President Trump’s leadership and the hospitality of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He stated that the ball is now in Russia’s court, indicating that the decision to move forward rests with them. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
