[New Title] Pope Francis’ medical team consideredhalting treatment during hospital stay, according to new report

Doctors treating Pope Francis considered halting his treatment due to concerns about the risk of him not surviving. During his hospitalization at Gemelli Hospital, the 88-year-old experienced a coughing bout and inhaled vomit, leading to staff using a bronchoscope to clear his airways and providing non-invasive ventilation support. Medical director Dr. Sergio Alfieri shared with Corriere della Sera that there was a moment of heightened concern and the decision was made to pursue aggressive medical interventions instead of letting nature take its course. This aggressive approach was in line with the Pope’s wishes as communicated by his personal healthcare assistant, Massimiliano Strappetti. The Pope ultimately recovered and was discharged, showing that his respiratory and mobility therapies are continuing.
