In a recent interview broadcast on Russian state television, Putin highlighted Russia’s vast reserves of these rare and rare-earth metals and their significance for the Russian economy. He expressed the openness of his nation to collaborate with foreign partners, including American companies, in capitalizing on these resources.

Putin’s remarks come as the Trump administration aims to offset the costs of aid sent to Ukraine by seeking access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals, such as titanium, iron, and uranium, as part of a peace agreement. Putin also mentioned the possibility of making an energy deal with the United States and suggested that arrangements could also be made regarding mineral extraction in disputed regions of Ukraine referred to as “new territories” by Russia.

President Donald Trump has also expressed interest in finalizing a deal with Ukraine concerning its mineral resources as a potential way to conclude the conflict. Reports suggest that a meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could be imminent to discuss this agreement. The potential deal would grant rights to access Ukraine’s natural resources in exchange for substantial financial support for the country’s ongoing conflict with Russia.
