Senior Iranian military figure responds to US president’s threats against Yemeni insurgents, delivers a cautionary message

A top Iranian general has vowed “decisive and destructive” retaliation for any threats following President Donald Trump‘s claim that he directed American forces to conduct military action against the Houthis in Yemen. According to Reuters, Gen. Hossein Salami, the leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, stated, “We warn our enemies that Iran will respond decisively and destructively if they carry out their threats.” The general emphasized that Iran is not a nation to hide, adding, “We are a valid and legitimate system in the world. We announce it if we attack anywhere.”

The U.S. Central Command confirmed that they had “initiated a series of operations consisting of precision strikes against Iran-backed Houthi targets across Yemen to defend American interests, deter enemies, and restore freedom of navigation.” President Trump posted on Truth Social that he “ordered the United States Military to launch decisive and powerful Military action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen,” emphasizing that the attacks by Houthis have significantly affected the U.S. and World Economy, while also endangering innocent lives. Trump declared, “To all Houthi terrorists, YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON’T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth informed Fox News that the campaign against Houthi targets in Yemen will persist “until the Iran-backed proxies pledge to back off U.S. assets.” Houthi officials have accused the U.S. strikes of causing significant casualties, with their leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi threatening to escalate their response, including targeting U.S. military assets. Furthermore, U.S. warships have successfully intercepted multiple Houthi drones, indicative of the group’s continued aggression.
