Taiwan is investigating allegations of potential gray zone action by China following an incident involving the cutting of an undersea cable.

A Togolese-registered vessel suspected of severing an undersea fiber optic cable connecting Taiwan and Penghu was detained by Taiwan’s coast guard on Tuesday. The Hong Tai 168 had been close to the cable since February 22. All eight crewmembers, who are Chinese nationals, were detained. There was no disruption to service thanks to other cables.
