The leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, Abdallah Maki Mosleh al-Rifai, alias “Abu Khadija,” was killed in a joint operation by Iraqi national intelligence service and U.S.-led coalition forces, according to Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. Al-Rifai was described as one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and the world by the prime minister. U.S. President Donald Trump reacted to the news by stating that al-Rifai’s “miserable life was terminated” and emphasized the importance of “PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH.” The operation was conducted in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, and involved an airstrike that also targeted another ISIS operative. U.S. and Iraqi forces found the bodies of the two ISIS targets, who were wearing unexploded suicide vests and had multiple weapons.
