Ukraine Faces New Threat as Russian Military Strikes with Drone Assault Talent

Two people died and 35 were injured after a Russian drone attack hit a military hospital and shopping center in Ukraine late Saturday night, according to Ukrainian officials. Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported the deaths of a 67-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman in Kharkiv and condemned the attack. Many of the casualties were service members being treated at the military hospital. Ukraine’s air force stated that the attack involved 111 Russian drones, of which 65 were shot down and another 35 were disabled. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy predicted earlier that Russian forces would increase attacks to strengthen their negotiating position for peace talks. Russian President Vladimir Putin praised his forces’ “strategic initiative” in a public forum. Zelenskyy urged Trump’s administration not to give in to Putin’s demands. The weekend attacks followed drone strikes in Dnipro and a ballistic missile strike in Kryvyi Rih, Zelenskyy’s hometown. On Thursday, Zelenskyy met with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss strengthening Ukraine’s military and the potential deployment of European troops for any peace deal. Michael Dorgan and the Associated Press contributed to the report.
