Ukraine’s drone attack obliterates Russian bombers in a meticulously orchestrated 18-month operation.

Ukrainian forces have conducted a sophisticated drone strike on Russian soil, targeting multiple military airfields and destroying numerous warplanes. This operation, dubbed “Spider’s Web,” was meticulously planned over 18 months and received personal oversight from President Volodymyr Zelensky. Using small FPV drones concealed in wooden cabins on trucks, the Ukrainian military managed to launch the drones remotely once the trucks reached their destinations.

The attack resulted in significant damage to Russia’s military capabilities, with reports indicating the destruction of strategic bombers and surveillance planes. The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) claimed that the strike impacted 34% of Russia’s strategic bombers and caused damage estimated between $2 billion and $7 billion, depending on the source.

No protests were heard from Russian defenses during the strike, as the drones were launched from within Russian territory, making it difficult for air defenses to respond. The attack took place before scheduled peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, which were set to occur in Istanbul.

Ukraine’s objective is now to push for a complete ceasefire, the release of captured prisoners, and the return of children taken to Russia as a result of the conflict. The White House acknowledged being unaware of the operation beforehand and expressed uncertainty regarding the exact number of Russian bombers affected, estimating it to be between 11 to 15.

Experts believe the raid has diminished Russia’s capacity to carry out long-range missile attacks, including using TU-95 and TU-22M3 aircraft. Additionally, Ukraine claims to have damaged a Russian A-50 radar aircraft, which is used to direct Russian air operations.

The successful operation highlights Ukraine’s increasingly sophisticated military tactics and its ability to conduct complex operations deep within adversarial territory.
