On Saturday, a rare tropical cyclone, originally forecasted to cross the east Australian coast and become the first of its kind since 1974, diminished in strength and evolved into a tropical low weather system as it neared Brisbane, the third-most populous city in the country. Cyclone Alfred, as it was initially known, was downgraded before making landfall.
