Bangladesh holds the highest record in Asia for the number of child marriages per capita. According to UNICEF, a staggering 38 million women were married before reaching the age of 18, which equates to approximately half of the female population. Despite child marriage being against the law since 1929, with a legal age of 18 for women and 21 for men, the issue persists. Despite the efforts of various national and international organizations, the number of child marriages has remained disturbingly consistent. Lisa Gamonet and Nabeel Ahmed report for FRANCE 24.
