In May 2017, a Catholic Mission in Bangassou, Central African Republic, transformed into a bastion of defense. In an act of interfaith solidarity, Catholic priests united to protect Muslims from an impending massacre orchestrated by Christian militia, the anti-balaka. These dedicated clergy provided a sanctuary for the persecuted Muslim populace for a period of four years. In a report by Caroline Dumay and Stefan Carstens, the current status of reconciliation in Bangassou is explored amidst the backdrop of a country still grappling with the presence of over 15 active armed groups.
