China’s military conducted “live-fire” exercises aimed at vital ports and energy installations affiliated with Taiwan, a region that Chinaasserts is part of its territory. The drills, denounced by Washington as “intimidation tactics,” came in response to comments by Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te, who referred to China as a “foreign hostile force.”
