On April 28, 1945, Italy’s dictator, Benito Mussolini, faced execution by members of the Italian resistance, alongside his mistress, Clara Petacci. The following day, their lifeless bodies were left in Milan’s square, where they endured derision and mistreatment from the crowd. Notably, eight decades after the downfall of “Il Duce,” the Italian public no longer reviles the remnants of fascism, and a sense of wistfulness towards the era endures.
