Demonstrations intensify as Israelis split over authorities’ proposal to exert “authority” in Gaza.

On Thursday, relatives of hostages currently detained in Gaza organized vast demonstrations, vocally opposing the Israeli government’s strategy to exert control over the region. Their rallying cry was for the conflict to cease and for all captives to be freed. Notably, some government officials voiced their disapproval of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal as well. The military’s top brass expressed worry over the depletion of troops, while opposition leader Yair Lapid highlighted the potentially prohibitive human and financial costs of seeking comprehensive control in Gaza after nearly two years of hostilities.
