Does the EU Lead Globally in Advancing Women’s Rights? Tackling Persistent Disparities

International Women’s Day was first celebrated on March 1911, supported by over one million people in several European countries, including Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. At that time, women’s rights were significantly limited; they were denied the right to vote in many countries, and access to higher education and legal divorce were also restricted. Since then, there has been substantial progress.
