Qatar recently played host to a second round of talks between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. Mediators from Qatar also conducted separate meetings with representatives of the M23 rebel group, who receive support from Rwanda. The previous week had seen the first-ever meeting between DRC President Felix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame in Doha, which followed the M23 rebel group’s escalation of attacks in eastern DRC.
