The European Investment Bank, established in the 1950s with the European Union, plays a critical role as the EU’s financing arm. Historically, it has flown under the media radar compared to prominent EU institutions like the European Commission and European Parliament. However, this is beginning to change. The EIB is stepping into a more visible position, especially with projects in the areas of security and defense. Our guest describes this as a significant change, akin to a “seismic shock.” We welcome Nadia Calviño, who not only holds the presidency of the European Investment Bank but also makes history as its first female and Spanish leader. Previously, she served as the First Vice-President of Spain’s government and Minister of Economy, Trade, and Enterprise under Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, until December 2023.
