Halfway through the second month of Israel’s blockade on vital aid entering Gaza, the humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave has deteriorated to its most critical point since the conflict initiated in October 2023, according to the United Nations. In a phone conversation, Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas and French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the “critical” necessity for a new truce and the resumption of humanitarian assistance in Gaza. Macron also advocated for a restructured Palestinian Authority to assume control of Gaza following the cessation of hostilities.
