Voting is currently taking place in Germany’s most important election in decades, as described by many. This snap election was initiated following the breakdown of a three-way coalition led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s center-left Social Democratic Party. Friedrich Merz, the leader of the Christian Democrats, is likely to become the country’s tenth Chancellor. In addition, the far-right AfD is predicted to place second in the election. Concerns about the economy, security, and immigration are widespread, with only 18% of Germans believing the country is on the right path.
