Israel negotiates hostage release in exchange for a ceasefire, as dire humanitarian situation worsens in Gaza.

The Israeli government has proposed a 45-day ceasefire in exchange for Hamas releasing half of the hostages currently held in Gaza, according to statements made by Hamas on Monday.
