The Republican People’s Party (CHP) of Turkey, serving as the principal opposition party and holding the second-largest share in the parliament, has formally designated Ekrem Imamoglu, the besieged Mayor of Istanbul, as their presidential contender for the 2028 elections. This declaration followed a night of incarceration for Imamoglu, which was a consequence of corruption allegations brought forth against him.
