The death count from the significant 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar has risen past 1,000, following the collapse of many structures during the disaster, which hit close to the nation’s second-largest city. Rescue teams continue to search through the wreckage for survivors.
According to Marie Manrique, a Program Coordinator for the International Federation of the Red Cross, ‘The Red Cross is actively involved in rescue efforts and delivering essential emergency aid, focusing on supporting individuals, especially those who have lost their homes as a result of the earthquake.’ She emphasized, ‘At the moment, priority needs include providing shelter, clean water, and efficient transportation.
