At least 1,000 people have died due to a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck near Mandalay in Myanmar. The neighboring country of Thailand was also affected by the quake, which was the largest to hit Myanmar in over a century. The US Geological Survey estimates that the death toll could exceed 10,000. Aid flights from countries like Russia, India, and China began arriving on Saturday. Meanwhile, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that their teams in Europe are preparing supplies and tents for delivery. Matthew-Mary Caruchet provides further information.
