Poland reintroduces border checks on its frontiers with Germany and Lithuania to address the issue of unauthorized immigration.

Poland has announced its intention to build fences along its borders as a measure to curb “illegal immigration,” according to Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak. This decision comes after the closely contested presidential election in June, where nationalist candidate Karol Nawrocki, who based his campaign on a “Poland first, Poles first” stance, emerged victorious over an ally of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Critics of the government’s plan argue that it is discriminatory and may create divisions.
