Romania’s presidential election retake gets underway as polling stations open for crucial vote

Voting began in Romania on Sunday for a repeat of last year’s presidential election, which had been invalidated by a judicial ruling. Former leading contender and vocal NATO critic, Calin Georgescu, is prevented from participating in this round, and fellow far-right politician George Simion is now seen as the likely favorite to win.
