From the United Nations headquarters in New York, France 24 correspondent Jessica Le Masurier reports on the Security Council’s decision on Monday. The Council adopted a US-sponsored resolution that refrains from condemning Russia’s sole involvement in the Ukraine conflict. Ten member states supported the resolution, while no one voted against it. France, Britain, Denmark, Greece, and Slovenia chose to abstain. In Le Masurier’s words, “This resolution failed to condemn Russian aggression, the invasion, or the need for Ukraine’s territorial integrity to be safeguarded.” Following this, European countries attempted to amend the resolution after the UN General Assembly expressed broad support for Ukraine and condemnation of Russian aggression, marking a small victory for Ukraine’s European allies.
