The newly appointed leaders in Syria organized a highly anticipated national dialogue conference on Tuesday. This event, described as a “rare historical opportunity,” aims to rebuild the nation after the departure of former President Bashar Assad and the devastating civil war that lasted almost 14 years. For the past few months, a small interim government, headed by the former Islamist insurgent group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, has been governing Syria. However, a new transitional government is expected to take over, replacing the current authorities. This upcoming government will focus on being more inclusive and representative, with Ahmed al-Sharaa remaining in his role as interim President.
