Angola claims to have persuaded all parties involved in DR Congo’s conflict to participate in direct peace negotiations scheduled for March 18th. Luanda has been attempting to mediate a ceasefire as M23 rebels, supported by Rwanda, have progressed through eastern DR Congo this year. Kinshasa reports that more than 8500 individuals have lost their lives due to the militia’s actions since January and had previously declined to engage in talks with the M23. In response to Angola’s endeavors, their only statement on Tuesday was acknowledging these efforts.
