Military spending around the globe reached $2.7 trillion in 2024, the largest yearly increase since the Cold War, according to SIPRI, due to mounting conflicts and geopolitical instabilities, the organization reported on Monday. The sharp increases were particularly noticeable in Europe and the Middle East. SIPRI highlighted that several European countries experienced “unprecedented” increases in their defense budgets.
