Airstrikes in Darfur have missed their targets, resulting in refugees being hit instead. The Sudanese military has been conducting these airstrikes to counter the Rapid Support Forces, leading to a deteriorating humanitarian situation and forcing people to flee to remote areas along the border. A ten-year-old girl named Isah Abdallah Fadul was injured in an airstrike at a market in Darfur last year, and she recently arrived at a Doctors Without Borders clinic seeking medical treatment. The Sudanese military and the RSF have been accused of committing atrocities, and the United States has accused the RSF of genocide. A pattern has emerged where RSF troops enter a village or town, followed by a Sudanese military airstrike. The first step for refugees who make it to the border is to receive medical treatment and then decide their next course of action. Isah’s doctors at the clinic have determined that her leg is infected and she will need to be transferred to a larger hospital in the coming days.
