In a shocking revelation, a video recording from a paramedic’s cellphone, discovered in a mass grave in Rafah, Gaza, reveals that Israeli troops shot at clearly marked ambulances and a fire truck with emergency signal lights activated. The Palestine Red Crescent Society presented this to the U.N. Security Council.
An Israeli military spokesman, Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, denied intentionally attacking an ambulance, stating that unidentified vehicles were seen advancing suspiciously towards Israeli troops, prompting the shooting. Nine of the killed were claimed to be Palestinian militants.
The video’s authenticity regarding location and timing was verified by The Times, showing a convoy of emergency vehicles driving with lights on, prior to being attacked.
The video, filmed from within a moving ambulance, clearly depicts a convoy of marked emergency vehicles driving towards Rafah on a road in the early morning. They stopped to assist a previously attacked ambulance on the side of the road, before coming under intense gunfire.
The paramedic capturing the video is witnessed repeatedly reciting the Shahada, a Muslim declaration of faith, fearing death. The chaotic sounds of distress from aid workers and the Israeli military are audible in the background.
The incident, drawing international condemnation, involved aid workers who were unarmed. Dr. Younis Al-Khatib from the Palestine Red Crescent stated that the victims’ bodies showed signs of being targeted at close range.
Dr. Ahmad Dhair, examining the bodies, found that four out of five were killed by multiple gunshots. An IFRC delegate called this the deadliest attack on Red Cross workers worldwide since 2017. UN rights chief Volker Türk demanded an independent investigation, pointing to concerns about possible Israeli war crimes. One aid worker remains missing.
