Under President Trump’s proposal, the United States would govern Gaza and expel its residents, while the Arab plan proposes that Gaza be run by Palestinian technocrats within a wider Palestinian state. A proposal from Israel suggests that some control should be ceded to Palestinians, but blocks Palestinian statehood establishment. Another proposal from Israel would involve occupying the entire territory.
Since the beginning of the Gaza war, there have been numerous proposals on how the conflict may end and who should govern the territory. More proposals have been made since a cease-fire was sealed in January, fueling efforts across the Middle East to find an alternative.
However, a severe problem still exists, as each plan contains something that either Israel or Hamas or Arab countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia may find unpalatable. Despite the multitude of proposals, Israelis and Palestinians have not drawn any closer to an agreement on Gaza’s future, raising the chances of renewed war. While negotiations continue, Hamas-Israel conflict seems inevitable unless significant changes are made.
